Questions
What has been your most memorable moment since becoming a mom?
Tough to pick one! A memorable moment was when my youngest son, who lives with Type 1 Diabetes, received an award for exemplary character at Diabetes Camp. It was a moment where I realized that despite his daily challenges, his spirit and approach toward life touches others in a positive way. In that moment, I was reminded that challenges we face in life can also be perceived as gifts – they provide us with life lessons, strength and wisdom.
What surprises you most about motherhood?
How quickly my children are growing - their tiny, chubby little legs, now long and lean, practically reach the end of their beds. Also, how different my children are from each other – same womb yet one is water and the other is fire.
What inspired you
to start your company "triEmbrace"?
I began a career in health
coaching for various reasons. I grew up with an understanding that food can be
medicine. I had the blessing of growing up around some pretty amazing cooks.
When I started my own family, cooking and preparing real food became a passion
of mine. I found that friends would ask
for recipes or advice on how they could make healthier meals for their loved
ones and the idea of helping others began to blossom. My son’s diagnosis was
devastating but he benefits greatly from my ability to recognize how food
affects the body. I realized that health coaching was a career I should
consider and started the journey in 2009. I believe that we’re living in a
world where the relationship between food and lifestyle are significantly out
of balance yet the two have a tremendous impact on our overall health and
well-being. Having the opportunity to help clients achieve better balance in
their lives and to show them the healing properties of real food is a joy for
me. The creation of the new company I
have started with two friends, called “tri Embrace”, affords me the opportunity
to do more in the community. We work to empower and educate adults and children about the importance of balance in our lives as well as on
our plates. Our mission is to help
people achieve a healthy lifestyle that is flexible, fun and ultimately
rewarding.
What are your
favorite tips for eating healthfully?
Eat foods that are in
season. Eat locally whenever possible, encouraging a way of eating that
emphasizes plant-based foods is the key to better health.
What advice would
you offer new moms?
Go gently with yourself! Despite
all the advice family members, friends and even strangers are giving you – go with
your gut.
